About Me

I am currently a Mechanical Engineering student at Old Dominion University with a minor in Engineering Management and a concentration in Mechanical Systems/Design. Throughout my four years, I have been a part of many organizations including the previous ODU Engineering Ambassadors chapter, the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS), the ODU Drone Club, and the Perry Honors Living Learning Community. My current goal upon graduation is to obtain either an internship or job opportunity to gain further experience in my field of study outside of the classroom setting.

My Story

For the majority of my life, I grew up in Manassas, VA after moving from Arlington, VA at the age of one. I was raised in a Bengali household alongside my younger brother and sister. My father came to this country in the early 1990s followed by my mother in 2001 with the goal to provide his family with opportunities and better living conditions he would not have been able to in Bangladesh at the time. Throughout my life, they have taught me to understand my identity and where I come from and to have pride in our culture and our roots. I constantly reflect back on their hardships to be grateful for what I have been provided, and their encouragement further motivates me to pursue my ultimate goal of being an engineer that can benefit society.

Prior to college, and even at a young age, I had always found passion in technology and the innovative advancements in the society around us. My strong interest in the technical field led me to join the Project Lead the Way program at my high school, which essentially is a 4-year program for students that cover many core engineering concepts and principles in the various disciplines of engineering. This included general studies of AutoCAD and Revit software, digital electronic circuit boards and NI Multisim software, and even Truss bridge sketching and simulation. With the motivation of my peers and engineering teacher, I decided to further my education in the engineering field which led me to Old Dominion University.

My sights were on Old Dominion mainly due to their engineering program being one of the best in the state, as well as the campus lifestyle. The campus is placed in a busy urban environment, which forced me to step outside my comfort zone as I am more accustomed to a quieter suburban setting. Although it took some time for me to find myself in the Monarch community, I eventually was able to find peers and friends who are essentially like my second family within the Batten College of Engineering and the Perry Honors College LLC. They assisted me in adapting and overcoming challenges that I faced and provided me with the proper resources I needed to start my life as a college undergrad.

During my time at ODU, I had the opportunity to further hone my technical skills as a Mechanical Engineer through my experiences. Alongside my academic studies, I was able to secure leadership roles in organizations such as NSLS and Engineering Ambassadors and share my experiences with many audiences. After graduation, my current goals of utmost priority include finding a career where I can apply myself using my academic experience, and eventually take my education to the next level in a Master's program Spring of next year.
